Fine historical shell cameo brooch worked from gold plated pinchbeck (tested and guaranteed).
The high oval cameo brooch features a detailed cut depiction of the ancient goddess Flora with flower crowned hair, in profile facing left.
In the allegorical representation of the seasons, the goddess Flora embodies spring. The rare cameo sits in a beautiful, simple pinchbeck framing.
Originating in England, the cameo brooch can be very easily attached to a lapel or blouse with a pinchbeck C-hook clasp on the back.
This particular piece of jewelry was created around 1860 and is a wonderful example of the reception of antiquities during the Historicist period.
