Marcasites, ca. 0.3 - 1.1 mm in diameter.
Description
Fahrner brooch with light blue Verneuil spinel and marcasites, crafted from sterling silver (stamped, signed and guaranteed).
The oval brooch is divided into four curved segments, which are pierced with individual fan-shaped bars. The bars are completely set with glittering marcasites and in the centre of the brooch is an oval faceted light blue verneuil spinel.
The back of the piece of jewellery has a well-functioning pin with a safety catch.
When August Verneuil succeeded in producing synthetic gemstones in his Parisian laboratory in 1902 using the so-called melting drop process, corundum first came into fashion, followed by Verneuil spinels from ca. 1930. This fine brooch was created around 1930 and was made by Theodor Fahrner, who also favoured the use of these stones. Theodor Fahrner is regarded as the pioneer of modern jewellery design; he was one of the first jewellery manufacturers to commission artists to design his precious objects.
The pretty brooch is still a decorative accessory and piece of jewellery with historical charm today. The bracelet with the item number 202412432 also goes particularly well with it.
Dimensions of the brooch: 4.4 x 2.9 cm.
Dimensions of the verneuil spinel: ca. 16.9 x 9.0 mm.
