The history of the origins of charm bracelets

Bracelets with small pendants and talismans were worn by the Assyrians, Hittites, Persians and Babylonians around 400 BC. Over the years, the function of these bracelets changed from a cultic-religious motivation to a fashion phenomenon with a personal memorial function. People now collected small pendants to bring good luck and remind them of loved ones, events and places, which they could wear on their bracelet at all times.

Queen Victoria as a royal role model

In the Victorian era, Queen Victoria herself popularised this type of memorial jewellery. She wore a bracelet with small pendants designed with curls and portraits of her loved ones. After the death of her husband, she also wore mourning pendants on this bracelet. The charm bracelet experienced another heyday in England in the 1970s.

Jewellery as a memento

Small pendants, bought as souvenirs in various cities, or figurative souvenir pendants in the form of buildings and landmarks or with a humorous background, often with small figurines inside, follow the principle of hanging mementos of beautiful or special moments on a very personalised bracelet.

Necklaces as a memento.
