Influences and style of the era

During the Art Deco period, the focus was on geometrically stylised designs and contrasting materials and shapes. The influences on the jewellery fashion of the time were diverse and ranged from modern art movements such as Cubism and Futurism to technical devices and machines and the design language of distant countries such as Asia or Egypt.

What makes an Art Deco bracelet?

Art Déco bracelets preferably come in ribbon form. Such a band could also be somewhat wider and was richly adorned with coloured gemstones or diamonds. Geometric basic shapes and stylised flowers and foliage are just as common as motifs from ancient Egypt, such as scarabs.

Smaller bracelets were just as richly decorated and were often worn in large numbers in the evening - either on bare skin or over elegant evening gloves.

Art Deco bangles were not only worn on the wrist, they were also worn as bracelets on the upper arm. During the day, simpler Art Déco bangles made of cut coloured stones, especially jade, were chosen.

High-quality bead bracelets also emerged in the 1920s. They were fitted with individual charms and often "grew" over years or even decades.

Art Deco: the look

In the 20s and 30s, white metals such as platinum and later white gold were primarily used. During the day, however, people also liked to wear an Art Deco bracelet made of gold and decorated with either coloured stones or enamel. The emancipated woman liked to combine her bracelets with long Art Déco necklaces made of pearls or large Art Déco earrings, which were particularly effective due to the "bobbed head" that was emerging at the time.

Art Deco bracelets today

Whoever opts for an Art Deco bracelet is not interested in understatement. Art Déco jewellery embodies luxury, modernity and nostalgia at the same time, which is why it is best worn on special occasions or at elegant evening events.
