Antique English opal pendant or brooch in the shape of a heart with seed pearls and tourmaline, crafted from 750 / 18ct yellow gold (tested and guaranteed).
This historic piece of jewellery is made in the spirit of the Belle Epoque around 1900 and consists of a heart motif crowned by a playful bow. The "beautiful era", also known in English as the Edwardian Era, was stylistically characterised by delicate floral designs that suggested lightness and elegance. Favoured motifs were garlands, bows and flowers in all kinds of variations. Reminiscences of the jewellery of the Ancien Régime were in demand again at this time and are also clearly recognisable in this piece of jewellery.
However, the pendant not only captivates with its characteristic motif, but also with the large Australian precious opal cabochon in the shape of a heart, which adorns the centre of the piece of jewellery with ca. 7.6 carats and presents its typical play of colours - primarily in shades of blue and green. Opals are usually worked in smooth cuts such as the cabochon cut in order to maximise the typical opalescence.
The gemstone is framed by small natural seed pearls with a fine, shimmering lustre. A bright green carré-cut tourmaline weighing ca. 0.15 carats also sits in the centre of the loop motif.
The pendant sits on a cord chain made of yellow gold 585 / 14 ct (stamped and guaranteed) with a spring ring clasp, which was added later.
The back of the heart is glazed in the style of a medallion so that small memories of your loved one can be framed underneath. It also has a solid pin on the back with a C-hook, which means it can also be worn beautifully as a brooch.
The fine pendant brooch was created around 1900 and comes from England. It is a real historical highlight and also makes a wonderful gift thanks to its romantic character.
