Asterism
Star effect in gemstones; star-shaped light reflections on the upper surface of a gemstone. Created by fine crystal needles (e.g. rutile) that meet at a single point when ideally distributed. Depending on the crystal system, four, six or twelve rays are possible. Particularly visible in cabochon cuts.
