Engagement ring
Ring that a person gives to their partner to symbolise their engagement – that is, their promise to marry. It is typically presented when a marriage proposal is made and, based on the concept of the ‘vena amoris’ (vein of love), is often worn on the ring finger of the left hand (although this varies from country to country).
