Micro mosaic

Tiny glass mosaics; a technique originating in Italy that was popular in the 18th and especially 19th century. Italy's most famous sights were immortalised in the form of micro mosaics and purchased as popular souvenirs during the Grand Tour. With the advent of photography, the technique disappeared again at the end of the 19th century.
