Signet ring
A ring with a tradition dating back thousands of years, used to seal confidential documents with wax; finger ring with a flat (gemstone) plate bearing a recessed engraving (a seal or coat of arms). In addition to its practical use, it also had a prestigious character, as it was reserved exclusively for the (male) upper class. For a long time, it was a sign of wealth, power, origin and status. Today, it is mainly worn as a sign of belonging to certain (noble) families, universities, student fraternities or companies.
