Belle Époque
Stylistic period at the beginning of the 20th century, roughly between 1900 and 1915 (the period of peace between the Franco-Prussian War and the First World War). Belle Époque jewellery is floral and playful, fairy-tale light and decorated with flowers, bows and garlands (therefore also called "garland style"). The style was based on classicism and the forms of the Napoleonic Empire, with a preference for white metals, diamonds and pearls. Known as the Edwardian Era in English-speaking countries.
