Posy ring
Type of ring with a dedicatory engraving on the band; derived from the English word ‘poesy’ (an archaic term for poetry). Popular between the 15th and 17th centuries and given as a token of love or as a friendship gift. The inscriptions did not have to be personalised, but could also be selected from collections, catalogues or popular books.
