Friendship jewellery
Type of jewellery with a sentimental meaning or background, which became established as early as the 14th century, when - due to growing prosperity - jewellery was no longer worn solely as a symbol of power. Friendship jewellery enjoyed its heyday in the 18th and 19th centuries, alongside mourning jewellery. Symbols such as knots, hearts, snakes and hands, as well as inscriptions and hair ornaments, are typical of friendship jewellery.
