Vintage cufflinks: individual and timeless at the same time
In the art and jewellery trade, objects that are more than 100 years old are referred to as antique. Accordingly, cufflinks up to the 1920s are also considered antique jewellery, while the term "vintage cufflinks" is used for objects from the 1950s onwards. The term "vintage" is now used for all jewellery items created up to the turn of the 21st century.
The special feature of vintage cufflinks is clearly their diversity. Depending on the era and context of origin, they are characterised by a wide range of designs and materials. These include engravings, polished or patterned surfaces or additional embellishments with enamel, gemstones or mother-of-pearl. In addition to a classic masculine design, vintage cufflinks also often feature unusual shapes and motifs, such as individual monograms or coats of arms, lucky symbols and animals.
Contemporary off-the-peg models, on the other hand, often feature reduced, minimalist designs that leave little room for personal expression.
Popular materials for cufflinks
The past five decades have been characterised by a diverse selection of materials that varied according to contemporary tastes, trends and role models. Similar to women's jewellery, vintage cufflinks were often made from yellow gold, white gold, platinum or silver.
Cufflinks set with gemstones and mother-of-pearl can be found again and again, but models with hatched, hammered or guilloché surfaces were also popular and highly valued. For special occasions such as weddings, gala evenings or balls, gentlemen with style also liked to wear cufflinks with diamonds.
Vintage cufflinks for special events
What better day to create unforgettable memories than a wedding? This is the perfect opportunity to start a lasting family tradition with a pair of vintage cufflinks. Why not give the groom a pair of very special cufflinks that can be passed on to future generations as mementos and thus carry a piece of family history?
Graduating from school or university, passing an important exam or a milestone birthday can also be wonderful occasions to invest in high-quality, individual cufflinks. These can be worn again and again as a special accessory and passed on to your offspring.
A personalised engraving, for example in the form of initials or a specific date, is also particularly thoughtful in this context. If you are interested in this, please do not hesitate to contact us! We can have our cufflinks engraved for you in our goldsmith's workshop according to your personal ideas.
