Description
A rare vintage-style bangle, crafted in Norway by Ragnar Hansen, made from 925 sterling silver (hallmarked, guaranteed and signed).
This unusual bangle consists of two convex elements connected at their narrow ends by large eyelet rings. The hammered surface and the sophisticated curvature of the bangle create a beautiful refraction of light, which also shows off the gleaming sterling silver to its best advantage.
The piece is simply slipped over the wrist, with the movable eyelet rings making it easy to put on. Due to its size, the bangle is well suited to larger wrists.
This exceptional piece of jewellery was created around 1965 in Norway and was designed by Ragnar Hansen for the Norway Plus Design Studio. Hansen was born in 1945 in Fredrikstad, Norway, and worked in Norway until 1972 following his thorough training as a silversmith and his studies at the School of Arts and Crafts in Oslo.
His masterful command of traditional hammer and anvil techniques enabled him to create complex forms without having to resort to other technologies.
In addition to his jewellery, he gained particular renown for his coffee service; one example of this is now housed in the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne, Australia, where he moved in 1972.
This cool bangle is a wonderful piece of jewellery for lovers of Norwegian design and a chic statement piece for many occasions.
