Chains and necklaces: eye-catchers for numerous occasions

The French word collier means necklace or choker and stands for a necklace consisting of several rows of gemstones or pearls. Necklaces have been worn for thousands of years for decorative purposes and continue to enjoy great popularity. At Halsbandaffaire, we offer you authentic, historical unique pieces from four centuries, from Rococo, Art Nouveau and Mid-Century to 21st century designs.

Depending on the situation and outfit, different models are recommended: gold or silver necklaces can be worn either close to the neck or long, directly on the skin or over the fabric of the top. This means you always have the choice between understated, playful or extravagant looks.

Even neck jewellery with coloured stones and diamonds can set impressive accents. The brilliance of the most precious of all gemstones has been captivating for centuries and has led to a quest for ever new shapes and cuts. Fancy neck jewellery set with diamonds is a real eye-catcher, especially with festive outfits.

The wide range of coloured gemstones also ensures almost limitless combination possibilities in the design of chains and necklaces. With our versatile range of coloured stone jewellery, we will be happy to help you find the right model for the right occasion.

Join us on a journey through different eras

At Halsbandaffaire, you will find necklaces in white gold, yellow gold, rose gold, platinum and silver.

The 19th century: Biedermeier, Historicism and Belle Époque

The Biedermeier period ushered in the 19th century and produced impressive pieces of jewellery that are still characterised by their special design today. Necklaces and colliers were often made from so-called foam gold - a thinly rolled and moulded sheet of gold - and preferably decorated with garnet, coral and turquoise.

In the second half of the 19th century, during the heyday of historicism, people orientated themselves towards stylistic models of past times. The focus was on stylistic elements from classical antiquity, Gothic and Renaissance through to Rococo, which were quoted, combined and reinterpreted in the jewellery of historicism.

About 1900, delicate necklaces with sparkling diamonds came into fashion, characterising the Belle Époque with designs inspired by the Napoleonic Empire. The ‘Garland style’ was born and delighted its wearers with bow, garland and floral leaf motifs.

Turn of the century and Art Nouveau

At the beginning of the 20th century, Art Nouveau was the first to produce an original design language that was no longer orientated towards the past. Necklaces and colliers now appeared in imaginative, softly curved designs inspired by nature and its phenomena. Coloured stones such as sapphire, emerald, amethyst and peridot combined with coloured enamel painting to create wearable works of art that still characterise the unmistakable design language of Art Nouveau today.

Art Déco

Art Deco jewellery in the 1920s and 1930s captivates with cool black and white contrasts, which are often accentuated with colourful gemstones such as emerald, ruby and jade. Strict lines and geometric basic shapes characterise the designs of this period and make them appear particularly elegant and luxurious. Opulent necklaces set with precious stones are just as much a part of the repertoire as long necklaces, known as sautoirs.
