Description
Large rare French vintage leopard brooch with enamel and ruby, crafted from 750/18K yellow gold (French hallmarked and guaranteed).
This impressive brooch, made from high-quality heavy gold, depicts a majestically seated leopard. Its typical fur has been elaborately crafted with enamel, and a ca. 0.04 carat navette-cut ruby serves as its eye.
The brooch fastens at the back with a well-functioning pin with a safety slide.
The elegant leopard was created around 1965 in France and may have been designed by the traditional Geneva-based designer Gay Fréres. Founded in 1835, Gay Frères was known for its fine goldsmithing. In the 1960s and 1970s, the manufacturer produced ornate jewelry with animal motifs, including leopard designs. Gay Frères supplied luxury brands such as Rolex, Patek Philippe, and Vacheron Constantin, among others.
The Sixties brooch combines excellent craftsmanship with timeless elegance and is now a sought-after collector's item. It is an attractive, unique piece of jewelry and typical of the period in which it was created, when large, finely enameled animal brooches were popular.
