4 round faceted rubies, ca. 1.2 mm, ca. 0.05 ct.
Description
Large and rare French leopard earrings with diamonds, rubies, and enamel, crafted from 750/18K yellow gold (French hallmarked and guaranteed).
These elegant Sixties earrings, made from high-quality gold, depict leopards biting into a ring of nine diamonds each. The typical fur has been elaborately crafted with enamel, and two rubies totaling ca. 0.05 carats serve as eyes. The brilliant-cut diamonds have a stone weight of ca. 0.18 carats and are of very good quality (F-G, VS1-VS2).
The clip-on fastenings with prongs on the back make the earrings easy and secure to put on and take off.
These elegant earrings were created around 1965 in France and may have been designed by the traditional Geneva-based designer Gay Fréres. Founded in 1835, Gay Fréres was known for its fine goldsmithing. In the 1960s and 1970s, the manufacturer produced artistic jewelry with animal motifs, including leopard designs. Gay Frères supplied luxury brands such as Rolex, Patek Philippe, and Vacheron Constantin, among others.
The earrings combine excellent craftsmanship with timeless elegance and are now sought-after collector's items in the typical style of the 1960s. They are distinctive, individual pieces of jewelry from a time when large, artistically enameled animal motifs were particularly popular.
