Description
Rare signed “Sputnik” earclips by Hans Stern, crafted from colourful gemstones and 750 / 18 Kt yellow gold (hallmarked, signed and guaranteed).
The hemispherical earclips are set with a total of 38 colourful gemstones, which are set in raised bezel settings: Faceted aquamarines, green and pink tourmalines, citrines, rhodolites and amethysts create a veritable fireworks display on the ear and harmonise beautifully with their warm, lustrous settings.
Together, the vibrant polychrome gemstones have a total weight of ca. 5.4 carats.
On the reverse, these high-quality earrings feature clip fastenings, making them particularly easy and secure to put on.
The legendary design of these clip-on earrings can be traced back to the jeweller Hans Stern, who was forced to flee Germany in the 1930s and settled in Rio de Janeiro. Just six years after his arrival in Brazil, Stern founded his own company, which was soon to prove extremely successful.
Above all, the use of colourful gemstones became the house’s trademark. The famous ‘Sputnik’ design featured here dates back to the widespread enthusiasm for space in the late 1950s and throughout the 1960s. Hans Stern was inspired by the satellite of the same name to create this distinctive shape for the earrings and designed the model in the early 1960s. These ear clips are therefore a beautiful piece of contemporary history that has lost none of its appeal to this day.
