Description
An exceptional, high-quality vintage necklace featuring a diamond, crafted from 750 / 18 Kt yellow gold (hallmarked and guaranteed).
Two strands of chain in a cut armour pattern converge at the centre to form a three-dimensional motif of two hands, whose delicate fingers encircle a small brilliant-cut diamond. The bezel-set brilliant-cut diamond weighs ca. 0.04 carats and is of a fine quality (G–H, SI1).
Particular attention is drawn to the motif of the hands, which was already used in jewellery in ancient times as a symbol of love or friendship. Here, however, it is primarily the interlocking hands that were designed across several eras, chiefly as wedding and friendship rings, and which established the tradition of so-called ‘fede’ rings. This term is derived from the Italian ‘mani in fede’, which can be translated as ‘hands in faith’ or ‘hands in loyalty’.
The hands depicted here, however, do not interlock. They gently encircle the sparkling gemstone, creating a beautiful focal point on the décolleté.
The necklace fastens at the back with a simple, sturdy lobster clasp.
This distinctive statement necklace was created around 1980 and is an impressive piece of jewellery with a unique character!
