A regal, rare and handcrafted King Ludwig ring featuring onyx and diamonds, crafted from solid, heavy 750 / 18-carat yellow gold (hallmarked and guaranteed).
The centre of the large, high-oval ring head is adorned with the characteristic crowned ‘L’, representing the fairy-tale King Ludwig II, set upon a deep black table-cut onyx. The monogram with the royal crown is crafted from white gold and set with 11 fine brilliant-cut diamonds. The black gemstone is framed by a wreath of 32 further exquisite brilliant-cut diamonds, bringing the total carat weight of the piece to ca. 1.7 carats.
All the brilliant-cut diamonds captivate with their very fine white colour (F-G) and their very good clarity (VS1-VS2).
The robust fluted shank transitions at the sides into the exquisitely crafted ring head with a lance-leaf motif, befitting the ring’s regal status.
This opulent men’s ring was created around 1960, originates from Munich and was handcrafted by a local jeweller for the previous owner’s grandfather, entirely in the tradition of the so-called King Ludwig rings, which were originally bestowed in the 19th century by King Ludwig II himself as a gift of honour to all those who had rendered him special service. This tradition was continued into the 20th century, in memory and as a tribute to the Bavarian ‘Fairy-Tale King’.
