8 rose-cut diamonds, ca. 1.03 -1.9 mm, total ca. 0.12 ct.
Description
Cocktail ring from the 1930s, with verneuil spinel and diamonds, crafted from yellow gold 585 / 14 ct (stamped and guaranteed).
The impressively large ring is set in the centre with an intense blue, oval faceted synthetic verneuil spinel. The pretty stone, weighing ca. 5 carats, is framed by curved decoration in yellow gold, the warm colour of which accentuates the aquamarine spinel particularly well. Four diamond roses are attached to both sides of the ring shoulders, weighing ca. 0.12 carats in total and forming a matching transition to the sturdy ring band.
When August Verneuil succeeded in producing synthetic gemstones in his Parisian laboratory in 1902 using the so-called melting drop process, corundum was the first to come into fashion, followed by Verneuil spinels from ca. 1930. The light blue synthetic spinel in particular was very popular in the 1930s.
This fine ring was created around 1930 and is still a decorative and personalised companion for many occasions today.
