Description
Very rare antique "Etruscan Revival" earrings from England, crafted from 375/9 carat gold (stamped and guaranteed).
The fine and excellently preserved goldsmith's work consists of long hook brisures, each set with a small round element with a flower. Attached to these are two rods, each of which has a freely movable disc with elaborate granulation and cord wire patterns. In the centre, the flower motif of the earrings is repeated in a more elaborate form. The hook earrings are closed at the back with a safety hook, so that the earrings sit securely and freely on the ear.
The Etruscan style, which flourished in the 19th century, reflects an enthusiastic admiration for the jewellery of the Etruscans from the 7th to 3rd centuries BC. The finest goldsmithing techniques, such as granulation and cord work, were inspired by ancient Etruscan finds.
These extremely rare earrings were made in England around 1880 and are particularly impressive due to their enchanting goldsmith work. They can be easily combined for special occasions and are an absolute favourite for antique jewellery lovers.
Dimensions of the earrings including clasps: 5.0 x 1.7 cm.
Weight: 6.3 grams.
