Description
Opulent historical Biedermeier earrings with garnets, crafted from rose gold 585 / 14 ct (stamped, tested and guaranteed).
The large dangle earrings have Viennese brisures that open to the front, each decorated with a garnet in a vegetal frame. A large, removable and tapered decorative element, reminiscent of a stylised acanthus leaf, swings from each. A total of eight further rose-cut garnets create beautiful wine-red accents.
Depending on the occasion, the large suspension can be attached or removed using the bail fastener, allowing the earrings to be worn in two different ways.
The historic earrings were created around 1860 and originate from Austria. Typical of their time of origin, they are hollow and therefore light but at the same time of very high quality, making them comfortable to wear despite their size.
In order to save material after the Napoleonic Wars of Liberation, gold was often rolled out during the Biedermeier period and mechanically moulded into fully sculpted objects in the early industrial era. In combination with local gemstones such as Bohemian garnet, lavishly decorated and opulently crafted jewellery objects were created in this way, reflecting the romantic tendencies of the time.
Dimensions of the earrings: 5.5 x 2.0 cm or 1.9 x 1.2 cm.
Diameter of the garnets: ca. 2.6 mm.
Total weight: 6.2 grams.
Condition: Very good historical condition, freshly cleaned, see photos.
You will receive the earrings lovingly packaged in one of our pretty cases and with a certificate of authenticity.
Please note: Vintage or antique jewellery items are worn objects that may show slight signs of wear due to their history.
