Large signed Joseph Mazer brooch from the 1940s, crafted from 925 silver (stamped, signed and guaranteed).
This rare and unusual statement brooch depicts a stylised ray and bow motif set in the centre with a large, aquamarine blue octagonal-cut glass stone. Starting from the centre, there are bars that are also adorned with glittering rhinestones. Deep blue and bright pink-coloured glass stones also add pretty accents. The shape of the brooch is typical of the American style of the 1940s, the strict and stylised forms and the lavish, glamorous trimming are entirely in keeping with the fashion of the time.
The brooch with a safety catch on the back makes it easy to attach the piece of jewellery to clothing.
The opulent brooch was created in the USA around 1940 and was made by Joseph Mazer, who initially founded a company with his brother Luis in 1923 that produced shoe buckles. They later began producing silver and costume jewellery. The company always focused on high-quality designs and techniques in order to produce imitations of fine jewellery at an affordable price. In the late 1930s and 1940s, large necklaces, bracelets, brooches and earrings set with rhinestones were at the centre of production and enjoyed great popularity.
