Description
Delicate vintage dormeuse earrings with seed pearls, crafted from 585/14-carat rose gold (assayed and guaranteed).
Each of the rose gold settings, which open at the front (so-called ‘Viennese settings’), features three beautifully shimmering seed pearls arranged to form a three-leaf clover. A further small seed pearl forms the lower edge.
The name of the earrings derives from the French verb ‘dormir’ (to sleep): small earrings that sit close to the earlobe could also be worn whilst taking a nap. Particularly towards the end of the 19th century, people moved away from long, ostentatious earrings and began to favour more understated pieces such as dormeuse earrings.
Created around 1890, these earrings captivate with their understated charm and lovely motif. Thanks to their unobtrusive design, they are perfect for everyday wear.
Dimensions of the earrings (including clasp): 1.4 x 0.5 cm.
Diameter of the seed beads: ca. 1.0–2.2 mm.
Weight: total 0.8 grams.
Condition: Very fine vintage condition, freshly cleaned, see photos.
You will receive the earrings lovingly packaged in one of our pretty cases and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
Please note: Vintage and antique jewellery are pre-owned items which, due to their history, may show slight signs of wear.
