Rare historical suffragette pendant necklace with peridot, rubies and seed pearls, in yellow gold 625 / 15 ct, chain in yellow gold 375 / 9 ct (tested and guaranteed).
A curved pendant hangs from a fine anchor chain, the centre of which is set with an octagonal faceted peridot of ca. 1.3 ct in a beautiful, bright apple green. The fine, curved bars of the pendant, crafted from 15 carat gold, are also set with seed pearls and four bright purple-pink rubies totalling ca. 0.3 ct.
The pretty pendant can also be worn as a brooch, with a pin on the back for easy handling and a good hold on the lapel.
In addition to its beautiful filigree shape, the coloured gemstone setting and its versatile use, the piece of jewellery also conveys a very special symbolism: the colours of the stones are to be understood as a political statement and were the identifying symbol of a women's movement, the so-called suffragettes. The motto of the suffragettes was ‘give women vote’, for which the initial letters of the colours ‘green, white and violet’ stand.
The historic pendant necklace was created around 1900, speaks the graceful and floral formal language of Art Nouveau and is a historical witness to one of the most famous women's movements. It is not only a beautiful, decorative piece of jewellery, but also a statement that is still relevant today.
