Description
Historic micro-mosaic brooch depicting St. Peter's Basilica, crafted from gold-plated silver (tested and guaranteed).
This beautiful, oval-shaped brooch is covered with an onyx disc into which a polychrome micro-mosaic has been worked. It depicts St. Peter's Square with St. Peter's Basilica in pastel shades of wonderfully subtle tones. A cord frame made of gold-plated silver provides a fitting frame for this pretty piece of jewellery.
On the back is a simple brooch fastening with a C-hook, which can be easily and simply attached to a lapel.
The centuries-old technique of micro mosaic made it possible to create a particularly wide range of colours using sophisticated methods. The craftsmanship involved is particularly beautiful to see in this motif. The brooch was made in Italy around 1860 and was probably once a souvenir from a study trip, a so-called Grand Tour, to Italian art sites.
Dimensions of the brooch: 3.5 x 2.9 cm.
Dimensions of the onyx disc: 3.0 x 2.5 cm.
Dimensions of the mosaic: 2.3 x 1.8 cm.
