Description
Beautiful historical cameo pendant depicting Ariadne, crafted from gold-plated 800 silver (stamped and guaranteed).
Framed by a wave pattern and fine beads, the pendant features a carefully cut oval shell cameo depicting the right-facing profile of Ariadne. In Greek mythology, Ariadne is the daughter of the Cretan king Minos, who helped Theseus defeat the Minotaur. After he abandoned her, she was rescued by Dionysus and later often depicted as his wife with vine leaves and grapes. The artistically executed portrait is crafted in an antique style and is based on ancient models.
The gilded silver frame is decorated with a delicate seed pearl at the top, above which is the pendant loop. Below the frame are elongated, bezel-set baroque pearls that harmoniously round off the design.
The antique pendant with anchor chain was created around 1865 and is preserved in a case, typical of the period.
Length of the chain: 43.5 cm.
Dimensions of the pendant (including eyelet): ca. 7.9 x 3.6 cm.
Dimensions of the cameo: ca. 3.7 x 2.9 cm.
