Rare, particularly chic and large flower brooch, crafted from 925 silver (stamped and guaranteed).
This extravagant brooch was created around 1940 in the USA. It depicts a large flower with a stem, whose shape and arrangement of leaves is reminiscent of a wild rose. A large, bright orange-red faceted glass stone sits in the centre of the flower. It is surrounded by colourful sparkling small glass stones in blue, green and orange, which represent the stamens of the flower.
The sturdy brooch fastening on the back works with a simple sliding clasp and ensures a secure fit.
Large and imposing brooches, wide bangles, oversized statement jewellery and cocktail rings characterised the style of the 1940s in the USA and were the highlights of the fashion of the time. Due to the lingering effects of the Great Depression, jewellery for the wider population was increasingly made from cheaper materials such as silver, glass or Bakelite and transformed into elegant works of art. Ever since Coco Chanel, costume jewellery had been enjoying increasing popularity worldwide, and now the great Hollywood actresses of the time were also increasingly wearing glamorous and eye-catching jewellery made from inexpensive materials, finally making it socially acceptable.
This brooch is not only a decorative piece of jewellery, but also an interesting piece of contemporary history that reminds us of the golden age of Hollywood films and their stars and style icons such as Rita Hayworth, Ingrid Bergmann and Marlene Dietrich.
