A significant antique ring with a love inscription, crafted from 560 gold (hallmarked and guaranteed, roughly equivalent to the common 585 / 14 carat alloy).
This beautiful ring widens on the front and is dominated in the centre by a golden coat of arms, into which the German words for ‘Love’ and ‘Faithfulness’ (Liebe, Treue), as well as a monogram comprising the letters ‘M.W.’, are engraved. On either side of the coat of arms, the ring is decorated with delicate scrollwork and ornamental motifs.
This enchanting antique ring was crafted around 1890 and has a flat design, making it perfect for everyday wear.
It holds a touching message and a token of love, intended to serve as a constant reminder of one another. For at the end of the 19th century, love and fidelity were not merely promised in words; they could also be carried close to one’s heart at all times in the form of rings such as this.
The ring size suggests that the piece was originally given to a gentleman as a token of love.
