Description
Exquisite antique micro-mosaic pendant with chain, crafted from gold-plated tombac and 333/8 carat yellow gold (hallmarked, signed, tested and guaranteed).
This rare antique pendant, made from gold-plated tombac, features a three-leaf clover surrounded by a frame of eight arches. All segments are set with beautiful, delicate, polychrome micro-mosaic. The clover is rendered in various shades of green, whilst the arches are adorned with tiny blue and black-and-white millefiori motifs. The pendant features an elongated gold eyelet and hangs on a matching pea chain, which was added at a later date. Both the pendant eyelet and the chain are crafted from 333/8 carat yellow gold (hallmarked and guaranteed).
The centuries-old technique of micro-mosaic was used in the 19th century for the production of jewellery and small souvenirs. It was a particularly sought-after travel souvenir amongst 19th-century travellers on the Grand Tour of Italy. Among the most renowned workshops of its time was the Fabbrica Angelo Pessar, from which this piece of jewellery, created around 1890, also originated.
Our enchanting pendant is therefore not only a rare collector’s item, but can also be combined in a highly personalised way with classic styles.
Length of the gold chain: 41.5 cm.
Dimensions of the pendant (including bail): 3.2 x 2.7 cm.
Weight: 6.9 grams.
