Description
Historic dormeuse earrings set with diamonds in 750/18-carat yellow gold (tested and guaranteed).
A rosette-shaped pendant, each set with nine old-cut diamonds, is attached to a bail clasp typical of the period. The 18 diamonds are set in silver and have a total stone weight of ca. 1.2 carats (I-L, SI1-P2).
The name of the earrings goes back to the French verb ‘dormir’ (= to sleep): earrings that sit close to the earlobe and are often fitted with hinged hoops could also be worn during a nap, unlike their long, pompous predecessors. The so-called Dormeuse earrings came into fashion towards the end of the 19th century and shaped the jewellery fashion of the time.
This Victorian ear jewellery was created around 1880 and is an enchanting example of the jewellery art of the time.
Dimensions of the earrings: 1.6 x 1.1 cm.
Diameter of the diamonds: ca. 2.2 - 3.9 mm, totalling ca. 1.2 ct (I-L, SI1-P2).
Total weight: 3.7 grams.
Condition: Very nice historical condition, freshly cleaned, see photos.
You will receive the earrings lovingly packaged in one of our pretty cases and with a certificate of authenticity.
Please note: Vintage or antique jewellery items are worn objects that may show slight signs of wear due to their history.
