1 micromosaic, 2.5 x 2.0 cm.
Description
A particularly beautiful historic micro-mosaic brooch depicting St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, crafted from gold-plated silver (certified and guaranteed).
The oblong brooch features an onyx disc into which a polychrome micro-mosaic is inlaid. It depicts St. Peter’s Square with the famous St. Peter’s Basilica in pastel, wonderfully subtle earth tones. A cord border made of gold-plated silver provides a fitting frame for this lovely veduta.
On the back, the piece features a simple brooch clasp with a C-hook, which can be easily and effortlessly attached to a lapel.
The centuries-old technique of micromosaic reached its heyday in the 19th century, making it possible to depict motifs in an exceptionally wide variety of shades through sophisticated processes. In this piece of jewelry, this artistry is particularly evident in the design of the sky, which beautifully captures the mood of a summer morning through its delicate color gradations.
This elegant brooch was crafted in Italy around 1880 and was once a souvenir from the Grand Tour, an educational journey undertaken by the upper middle class to Italy’s major art and cultural sites.
Dimensions of the brooch: 3.6 x 3.0 cm.
Dimensions of the onyx disc: 3.2 x 2.6 cm.
