Description
Pretty Russian dormeuse earrings, set with red garnets and crafted from 560 rose gold (hallmarked and guaranteed).
A total of two beautiful cushion-shaped garnets, cut in a modified rose cut, are set on delicate hook-style posts with a clasp at the back. The two gemstones are a rich red colour and display magnificent reflections of light.
Tapered prongs and small decorative beads complete the otherwise simple design.
The name of the earrings derives from the French verb ‘dormir’ (= to sleep): small earrings that sit close to the earlobe could be worn even whilst taking a little nap. They came into fashion towards the end of the 19th century and shaped the jewellery trends of that era.
These delicate earrings were made around 1900 and originate from Russia. They were crafted – as is typical for Russia – from 560 gold, which corresponds approximately to the 585 / 14 carat alloy commonly used in Central Europe.
They are a subtle and stylish everyday accessory and also make a wonderful addition to traditional costume!
Dimensions of the earrings (including clasps): 1.5 x 1.0 cm.
Dimensions of the garnet: ca. 7.4 x 7.4 mm.
Weight: total 0.7 grams.
Condition: Excellent historical condition, freshly cleaned, see photos.
You will receive the earrings lovingly packaged in one of our pretty cases, accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. Please note: Vintage and antique jewellery are pre-owned items which, due to their history, may show slight signs of wear.
