A rare English Art Nouveau pendant with rubies and Orient pearls, crafted from 625 / 15 Kt yellow gold (assayed and guaranteed).
This unique piece of jewelry features gold bars with a botanical design that form a delicately curved motif. Four finely shimmering Orient pearls (natural pearls) are suspended from the design, each crowned by four vividly colored rubies in an antique cut (total ca. 0.6 carats).
The upper edge of the pendant is formed by four additional natural pearls, which transition into the movable eyelet—which is also set with pearls.
This antique pendant was created around 1900 and originates from England, which at the turn of the century was shaped by the Arts and Crafts movement—a parallel trend to European Art Nouveau. It is crafted from 15-karat yellow gold, a typically English alloy used between 1854 and 1932. 625 gold was used in particular for pieces that were worn frequently and with pleasure, as it is harder than 18-karat gold yet possesses an equally rich golden hue.
It is therefore safe to assume that this pendant was created to bring its wearer lasting joy. The fact that it has been preserved almost untouched in its original case from Sydney T. Steel in Cheltenham makes it all the more delightful.
