Description
Rare historic demi parure from Transylvania, crafted from emeralds, pink tourmalines, and pearls, as well as silver and gold (tested and guaranteed).
This demi parure – a jewelry set typically consisting of earrings and a matching brooch – features an opulent historicist design and originates from the Transylvania region, present-day Transylvania in Romania. At that time, Transylvania was part of the Habsburg Empire.
The brooch, the centerpiece of the set, is crafted from floral scrollwork in silver, onto which a variety of decorative elements were mounted: gold-plated, white and dark blue enameled leaves and blossoms sit between bezel-set foiled tourmalines in antique pink and intense green emeralds. The vibrant gemstones were crafted in a variety of cuts, creating a particularly vibrant overall effect.
Small, round natural seed pearls in a charming light gray shade add a lovely shimmer. Particularly impressive are the brooch's long pendants, which feature the same motifs and create a playful floral ensemble that always sways with the wearer's movements.
The back features contemporary pinning with C-shaped hooks.
The long silver earrings feature hook earwires made of 585/14 kt yellow gold (tested and guaranteed) and reflect the brooch's design in a more subtle variation. Two foiled tourmalines in oval and pear cuts, surrounded by silver tendrils, as well as five small seed pearls, complete the earrings.
This wonderful antique demi parure was created around 1860 and is preserved with its original case.
Parures and their smaller variant, the demi parure, were particularly popular in the 19th century, as they ensured that ladies of the nobility and the wealthy middle class were appropriately dressed for every occasion. Individual pieces of jewelry in a parure often served multiple functions – a brooch, for example, could also be worn as a pendant, while a necklace could be divided into two bracelets in just a few simple steps. The parure was thus an extremely versatile and at the same time stylistically harmonious form of jewelry with a prestigious character.
