Historic Viennese dormeuse earrings with sapphires and diamonds, crafted from 585 / 14ct gold (stamped and guaranteed).
A sparkling diamond rose and a radiant blue sapphire in a round facet cut sit on softly curved hinged hoop earrings. The delicate prong settings allow light to enter the beautiful gemstones from all sides, beautifully accentuating the particularly beautiful colour of the sapphires.
The two diamond roses have a combined stone weight of approx. 0.08 carats, while the sapphires have a combined weight of approx. 0.7 carats.
The name of the earrings goes back to the French verb ‘dormir’ (= to sleep): small earrings that sit close to the earlobe could also be worn during a nap. Towards the end of the 19th century in particular, people abandoned long, pompous ear jewellery in favour of more discreet jewels.
These enchanting earrings were created around 1900 and originate from Vienna. Thanks to their discreet design, they are real all-rounders and represent a small historical highlight in everyday life.
