Exceptional historical Geneva miniature enamel brooch with a 750/18-carat yellow gold frame (tested and guaranteed).
The brooch was created in Switzerland around 1860 and shows a view of the small church of Saint Martin with a bridge in front of it and the snow-covered Mont Blanc in the background - a view that was very popular in the 19th century.
The painting is framed in a restrained, finely decorated gold frame and is in perfect condition. On the reverse, the enamel veduta is stabilised with blue reverse enamel, typical of the period.
The back of the brooch can be opened and closed securely with the help of a well-functioning pin with a C-hook.
These types of brooches with Geneva enamel, which were designed like miniaturised paintings, served as wearable souvenirs of the Alpine world. Finely hand-painted, they depicted typical Swiss landscape idylls with mountains, churches and rivers to reflect a sense of home and travelling culture and were a popular travel souvenir or memento of Switzerland in the 19th century. These pieces combine precision craftsmanship with romantic landscape painting in miniature format and are highly valued - then as now.
The present brooch continues this tradition of Geneva enamel painting and was created around 1860. It is a special collector's item that also impresses with its excellent condition.
