Width: 0.9 – 5.6 cm.
Description
A beautiful 19th-century Bohemian garnet necklace, crafted from gold-plated tombac (tested and guaranteed).
This enchanting necklace consists entirely of flower- and star-shaped links, which are connected to one another in a movable manner via eyelets. At the centre of the design are three larger, stepped star motifs, each adorned with delicate, movable pendants that lend the piece a special charm and lightness.
The piece is entirely set with beautiful wine-red garnets in a rose cut and fastens with a slide clasp, also set with garnets, which blends almost invisibly into the design.
The necklace was made around 1880 and originates from Austria. Today, it looks particularly beautiful when paired with traditional costume and dirndls, though it was originally regarded as a popular piece of middle-class jewellery.
Historicist garnet jewellery came into fashion particularly from 1870 onwards and was characterised by rosette and star motifs with an emphasised centre, as well as teardrop-shaped pendants.
This necklace is therefore a highly characteristic example of middle-class jewellery from the late 19th century.
Length of the necklace: ca. 46.0 cm.
Width: 0.9–5.6 cm.
Diameter of the garnets: ca. 2.6–3.8 mm.
Weight: 30.0 grams.
Condition: In lovely historic condition, one (well-executed) repair on the reverse, freshly cleaned, see photos.
The necklace will be delivered lovingly packaged in one of our pretty cases, accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
Please note: Vintage and antique jewellery are pre-owned items which, due to their history, may show slight signs of wear.
