Description
An exceptional historical Art Deco pendant with chain, crafted by Otto Hahn with a large turquoise cabochon, made from 585 / 14 carat yellow gold (hallmarked, signed and guaranteed).
Set within a frame typical of the period, decorated with stylised foliage and gold beads, is a magnificent polished turquoise exhibiting characteristic marbling in the form of fine dark veins (turquoise matrix).
The pendant’s movable eyelet is designed as a filigree leaf and connects the piece to a chain, added at a later date, made of 333 / 8 carat yellow gold (hallmarked and guaranteed). The chain fastens at the back with a classic spring clasp.
This beautiful pendant is signed and was created around 1924 in the workshop of Otto Hahn, an artist-goldsmith from Bielefeld. Hahn produced what is known as ‘artist’s jewellery’, i.e. high-quality, artistically crafted one-off pieces created as a response to industrially and mass-produced jewellery.
Hahn gradually handed over his workshop to his sons, who successfully ran the business until the 1990s.
Length of the chain: 50.0 cm.
Dimensions of the pendant (including the eyelet): 3.4 x 2.3 cm.
Dimensions of the turquoise: ca. 1.8 x 1.5 cm.
Weight: total 8.4 grams.
Condition: Very good condition; chain added at a later date; freshly cleaned; see photos.
