Description
Historic Art Déco necklace with aquamarine blue Verneuil spinel and small diamonds, crafted from 585 / 14-carat white gold (stamped and guaranteed).
A large pear-cut synthetic verneuil spinel sits on a filigree chain in a pretty link pattern, captivating with its intensely bright blue colour. The beautiful gemstone of ca. 12 carats is typical of the period and sits in a finely crafted setting, which is decorated with millegrain beads characteristic of the Art Déco period. Four small diamond roses totalling ca. 0.03 carats provide a subtle additional sparkle.
The necklace can be put on and taken off easily and securely with the help of a box clasp with a safety catch.
In 1902, August Verneuil succeeded for the first time in producing synthetic gemstones in his Paris laboratory using the so-called melting drop process. As a result, synthetic corundum and, from around 1920, Verneuil spinels became very popular.
