Brosche VintageWhile brooches were originally purely functional, i.e. they held the garment closed, they later became more and more of a decorative stylistic device, evolving into a pure piece of jewellery. Another traditional use of brooches was as a badge of honour or medal. But brooches have been used as jewellery for around 500 years. And that's no wonder, as they are a very special accessory.

With a vintage brooch, you are acquiring a genuine classic that always emphasises your own personality and turns a simple outfit into something very special. This is because brooches are worn at collar height and therefore always automatically become the centre of attention.

Vintage brooches from the 50s to 90s should not be missing from any jewellery collection - they give every outfit that certain something.

Vintage brooches from the 50s

The post-war years were characterised by reconstruction and a rapidly changing image and understanding of women's roles. From 1948, the so-called New Look emerged, which reached its peak in the 1950s with cheerfully swinging wide skirts and fitted dresses. Jewellery was also very popular at this time: in the form of earrings, necklaces, pendants and, above all, brooches, which were very imaginatively produced.

Favoured materials included yellow gold and diamonds, making the vintage brooches of the 50s precious and unique.

60s: extraordinary brooches

Brooches were also an integral part of jewellery collections in the 60s and enjoyed great popularity. Frequently used materials were diamonds, but also gemstones, jade or Akoya cultured pearls. Popular brooch designs of the 60s included flowers and blossoms. They could be combined well with the elegant style of the time.

In the 70s, the focus continued to be on precious materials such as diamonds and white gold. The gemstones were often used in claw settings. This allowed them to receive plenty of light, making them sparkle and shine. The brooches of the time also had secure sliders, which made them very easy and secure to attach to clothing.

Another popular arrangement for vintage brooches from the 70s is the cocktail style, in which floral patterns made from precious materials such as diamonds or rubies take centre stage.

Vintage brooches from the 80s and 90s

The glamorously inspired 80s created magnificent, precious and mostly large brooches in many shapes and colours. They were popular and widely worn and have lost none of their stylish appeal to this day.

The popularity of brooches continued into the 1990s - this decade saw the creation of brooches made of pearls in combination with diamonds and gemstones in particular.
