Historism and Belle Époque: antique engagement rings with an eclectic design
Historic jewellery is generally characterised by its stylistic preference for the past. Forms from the Renaissance and Gothic periods, classical antiquity and the Baroque period were therefore also used in engagement rings and in some cases reinterpreted. Exuberant ornamentation and asymmetries were found here as well as Greek meanders and decorative geometries.
Due to prosperity and political peace, the jewellery of the Belle Époque was characterised by joie de vivre and exuberance and produced highly elegant, sumptuously sparkling designs made up of blossoms, garlands, delicate tendrils and fine openwork.
Antique engagement rings of Art Nouveau
Art Nouveau jewellery focused on natural motifs. Flowing shapes, waves, tendrils, foliage, soft geometries as well as animal and female figures were found in necklaces, brooches and also rings of the time. Art Nouveau engagement rings therefore inspire with their flowing, fairytale-like design, which promises finesse and historical charm even in today's everyday life.
Art Déco engagement rings
Engagement rings from the Art Déco period (1920s and 1930s) often feature geometric shapes in strict geometries and were mostly made of white metals such as platinum and later white gold. Diamond trimming was part of the style and was often complemented by colourful gemstones such as sapphire, emerald, ruby, jade and onyx. The design was then often completed with so-called millegrain embellishments, which are fine metal beads that cover all shapes and settings like a delicate string of pearls.

Engagement rings from the first half of the 20th century
Diamond engagement rings were very popular in the first half of the 20th century. The classic diamond ring with a single stone, also known as a solitaire, was the most popular at the time. After the Art Déco, people also returned to jewellery designs made of yellow gold.
Not to forget the general situation after the two World Wars: material shortages, destruction and a focus on reconstruction and the economy meant that jewellery became a minor matter and engagement rings from the 1940s, for example, were also produced sparingly and in a reduced form.
