Description
Berlin iron cameo pendant with long chain made of silver 925, gold plated.
The cameo, cast in iron, bears the decorative depiction of a young lady in Greek half-profile.
The campaign "Gold gab ich für Eisen" (I gave gold for iron) financed the fight in Prussia (18th/19th century) against Napoleon and his troops. In exchange for their jewels, the donors received jewels made of cast iron, the "Berlin iron".
The historical gem is subsequently set in a modern silver setting, which hangs from an eyelet connection on a new heirloom chain, also made of sterling silver.
