Description
Beautiful necklace in archaeological style in yellow gold 750 / 18 Kt (stamped with French hallmarks and guaranteed) of the late 19th century. The chain is manufactured in large ornamentally designed links, which are movably connected to each other via fine ball links. Each of the handcrafted links has drop-shaped pendants decorated with wonderful decorations of granulations and filigree wirework. At the back the chain is closed with an elaborately designed buckle, which is hidden in a granulated ornamental ball with pendulumoque.
This wonderful necklace was made around 1880 in France, probably in the surroundings of Eugène Fontenay, whose works in archaeological style are influenced by ancient Greek, Roman and Etruscan jewellery examples from antiquity. The use of granulations as well as the entire organisation of the present necklace show its dependence on antique gold jewellery as inspiration. This extraordinary piece of jewellery is a wonderful and high-quality example of 19th century jewellery making.
Length of the chain: approx. 38.5 cm.
Front link dimensions (incl. trailers): 4.9 x 1.9 cm.
