Properties of diamonds

Diamonds consist of pure carbon and belong to the mineral class of elements. To create a diamond of jewellery quality, high pressure and temperatures of up to 1,400 degrees are required in the earth's mantle. Diamonds are usually mined in the vents of extinct volcanoes.

Diamond grading

Diamond jewellery is measured according to four criteria - the so-called four C's - including carat number (carat), colour (colour), clarity (clarity) and cut (cut). So if you are buying diamond earrings, for example, you should definitely keep an eye on these characteristics to ensure the quality of the selected stones.

Our tip: Take a look at our detailed product descriptions. Here you will always find all the important quality information about the diamond jewellery we sell.

An art in itself: the diamond cut

The cut of a diamond is particularly fascinating, as it enables a historical classification of the jewel and also has a significant influence on the brilliance of the stone. The aim was and is always to maximise the reflection of the light entering the stone and thus create the typical fire of the diamond.

Total reflection was first achieved at the beginning of the 20th century with the brilliant cut and its (at least) 57 facets. Modern jewellery is also constantly coming up with innovative creations in the form of fantasy cuts that present the diamond in a completely new look.

Beauty and symbolism: diamond rings for women

The diamond symbolises forgetfulness, purity and strength. Rings with diamonds are therefore particularly popular, as the symbolism of the gemstone is complemented by that of the ring as a symbol of eternity. The result is a piece of jewellery that is not only visually appealing, but also deeply meaningful.

For this reason, engagement rings with diamonds are also very popular and have been given as a sparkling promise of love since the 15th century.
