Bracelets have been worn for centuries and continue to enjoy great popularity. Due to their history, antique bracelets and bangles are particularly diverse and can be found in all eras. They were often made from precious metals such as yellow gold, platinum and silver and designed and decorated in the characteristic style of the respective era.
By definition, a bracelet is a chain-like, decorative band that is worn on the wrist. It consists of individual, interlocking links and is therefore flexible. Clasps in various shapes are used to fasten the bracelet.
Although the vintage bangle is also worn on the wrist, it is a fixed, ring-shaped piece of jewellery that is either slipped over the hand or fitted with a hinge and clasp so that it can be placed directly on the wrist.
Vintage bracelets from different eras
In our extensive range, you will find bracelets from different decades, from the 1950s to designs from the new millennium. Each decade was characterised by different ideals of beauty and ideologies, which naturally also had an impact on jewellery. As a result, we can now draw on a wide variety of shapes, structures and designs that make vintage bracelets so appealing and interesting.
Vintage bracelets from the 50s
Gold and silver bracelets are an integral part of Fifties jewellery. After the hardships of the Second World War, people now enjoyed indulging in luxury and flaunting gold jewellery in particular. Bracelets with floral elements or cross-hatched surface structures were particularly popular alongside bracelets made from saltwater pearls and gemstones. Large precious corals were also a popular design element and were usually combined with yellow gold.
The sixties: statement bangles and more
In the 60s, statement bracelets with rectangular or oval links were often worn. In general, abstracted natural shapes and geometric designs were predominant, which were also often characterised by unconventional material combinations. Angular, braided, hammered and twisted surfaces were just as common as narrower bracelets set with diamonds, which were combined with elegant evening wear.
70s: geometric shapes
In the 70s, bangles were an absolute must-have and perfectly suited the geometric design of the time. Large sterling silver bangles were also very popular. Models made from precious metals were often combined with gemstone bracelets so that each wrist was equipped with several pieces of jewellery. Geometric circular segments in expressive designs and large, tactile links together with bright colours characterised the jewellery fashion of the time.
80s: opulent elegance
Vintage bracelets from the 80s were mostly made of yellow gold and often set with diamonds. This decade was all about opulent elegance. Angular designs, which were still very popular in the previous decade, are therefore rarely found in 1980s bracelets.
The vintage bangle from this decade is wide, softly rounded and its design corresponds to the necklaces of the time. Despite their dimensions, bracelets were preferably worn in large numbers and in combination with each other.
90s: a variety of bracelets and bangles
The nineties saw a pluralism of styles characterised by social trends and pop culture. Gold in combination with polychrome gemstones was used, as were silver pendants on chokers. Bracelets with round gemstone beads were worn en masse on the wrist and went very well with boho-style turquoise jewellery.
