Bracelets & Bangles

Arm jewellery has its origins in prehistoric times, when simple bands made of plant fibres, animal skins or bones were worn, often as talismans to offer protection or to express status and identity. Arm jewellery through the centuries

Like other forms of jewellery, armbands and bracelets were symbols of wealth and power for many centuries. Egyptian pharaohs wore them, as did the wealthy ladies of ancient Roman society. Precious materials such as gold, silver and precious stones were used as raw materials and symbolised the high status of the wearer.

In the Middle Ages, jewellery in general underwent a transformation. Bracelets were often decorated with symbols and motifs that had religious or mystical meanings. A person's beliefs, virtues or other convictions could thus be displayed to the outside world with the help of a piece of jewellery.

With the Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo periods, bracelets and bangles became more artistic and opulent, often in the form of filigree work and elaborate decorations lavishly set with precious stones and pearls. Here, too, the primary goal was to display one's own wealth.
