Description
Beautiful historical cameo brooch in yellow gold 750 / 18 ct (tested and guaranteed). The fine piece of jewellery is set with an oval cameo made of layered agate and shows the profile of a maenad, a lady of the mythical retinue of Dionysus. It can be recognized by the grapes in her hair, which have been skilfully cut by the cameo cutter from one of the dark layers of the coloured stone. The manäde wears an elaborate hairstyle and a robe thrown into sweeping folds. The cameo sits in a chaton setting with elaborate framing made of various cord wire decorations. It can be closed at the back with a C-hook pin.
This exceptionally beautiful brooch was created around 1840 and is a wonderful companion for various occasions as well as a sought-after collector's item for antique jewellery collectors with a penchant for mythology.
