Description
Extravagant antique pendant in the form of a stylized pelican in gold-plated silver (tested and guaranteed). The large, detailed waterfowl is depicted with wings spread, his head inclined towards his chest, on which there is a crucifix. This is colored backed by a large polished amethyst. Among them are two sculpturally designed young animals, which complete the unusual design. On the back the pendant is equipped with a folding frame, which offers space for small portraits or photos and is decorated with the inscription "1915 3 June 1918". A large round eyelet offers the possibility to wear the pendant on a chain of your choice.
The historical jewel was created around 1918 and is full of symbolism: the biological fact that the parent animal lowers its head to feed its young with the fish in the throat bag originally led to the assumption that the pelican would open its own breast with its own beak and feed its young with its own blood. "Thus the pelican became the symbol of Christ's sacrificial death and of the self-sacrificing parental love" (Biedermann 1989, Knaurs Lexikon der Symbole).
Through this attribution, the pendant is not only a piece of jewellery, but he receives a personal meaning and can be worn as a talisman and souvenir of their own loved ones.
